well, its up in the mornin tryin to fins a job of work. stand in one place till your feet begin to hurt. if you go a lot o money you can make yourself merry, if you only got a nickel, its the staten island ferry. and its hard times in the city, livin down in new york town.
Two months. Two months can change everything. It took years of planning and a short amount of time to initate, but once the corruption entered the cities police force and political offices, it was only a matter of time. Crime rates started to increase and fear began to grow. Going out at night was impossible and going out during the day was risky. The Upper East side was hell and the slums were the only place that you could hope for some amount of safety, as long as you looked the part of course. The city was overflowing with crime and nobody was doing anything about it.
After two weeks you could walk into a store and basically take anything you wanted without anybody freaking out because everybody worried that you were holding a gun. A week after that and people were getting calls of family and friends dying because of shootings. It was mass chaos and there was nothing happening. Those that were left in politics that had good intentions were working as hard as they could, but there was a bounty out for their heads within the crime community. Nobody was safe, unless they could pay less than the person that they were standing next to. Friends would be willing to sell each other out just for a chance to get out of another shop robbery alive. Death wasn't a completely common occurence, but wounds from a shoot out were becoming more and more common and it seemed as though nothing was happening, at least that's how it started.
A month into it all and finally a small shine of light slipped into the darkness. It was only about a pinhole size of light, but it was better than nothing. There was a break in the crime sprees as the head of a rather prestigeous crime group was taken out by one of the cops taht was still out fighting for justice. Of course for such a corageous act the man lost his life only a few days later. Still, that was the first large step soon to be followed by many more. Week by week it seemed as though new places were beginning to get taken back by the city. Criminals were being put behind bars and the courts were filled with a new trial day after day. Things were looking up, but nothing was perfect. The criminals left were seemed to be radicalizing not wanting to give up on what they had earned.
Today, well today things still aren't perfect. Instead they're only improved. Now you can walk the streets with only slight fear andat night, well at night carrying a saw around with you might be your best bet because they're still out there searching for more money and they dont' care who gets hurt in the process. While walking the Upper East side isn't so bad, watch yourself in the slums of the city.
We've lived through this thus far, and we'll live to see another day. And I swear, we were infinite.
